About the Science SOL

(5th Grade Only)

The Science SOL focuses on all science content learned in 5th grade, which covers both 4th and 5th grade standards.

To best prepare your student for their science assessment, talk to them about science!

Observations

Observations

  • Go on a nature walk, read a book, cook in the home together, talk about water and energy usage.
  • What can you see here? What do you notice? Tell me about it using words from science class.
Brain Dumps

Brain Dumps

  • Students use “brain dumps” in class as a place to write down any and all information they remember about a topic right before they begin a test. Students will have blank paper for their SOL assessment that they can use to “dump” all the information they can remember about science onto. This can include vocabulary words, diagrams, models, drawings, etc.
  • Practice at home with your student by having them make a Brain Dump and explain what they added to it.
Vocabulary
